The James Taylor Quartet + Kaldera

Friday 2 May 2003 - 8.00pm to 1.00am
The Agincourt , London Road , Camberley, Surrey

James Taylor Quartet

The Agincourt, Camberley’s largest live music venue, has been selected to host one of Britain ’s most popular live acts on the second date of their national tour.  The James Taylor Quartet is coming to town bringing with them the JTQ brand of soulful Hammond-sliced jazz-funk on Friday 2 May.

James Taylor, front man and Hammond Daddy of the James Taylor Quartet, has nearly 20 years experience of the music industry tucked under his pointy lapel.  He is now as ubiquitous to British soul-funk as the cockerel is to Cornflakes.  JTQ refuse to come back each time with the same take on things, they shift the boundaries and offer us a different way of looking at British, Hammond-sliced funky music.  The Agincourt will be second in a nine-date national tour promoting their nineteenth studio album release, The Oscillator (release April 28 on Rootdown Records).

Despite selling a shed load of records throughout the years, the James Taylor Quartet has never really cut it in the ‘commercial’ market, which makes their huge success as a live act an even greater achievement.  Their energetic performances have won them a hugely loyal following enabling them to gig to sold out audiences wherever they go.  For most lovers of JTQ, it’s the bands ‘underground’ status that gives extra kudos to being a fan.

Following their massive success supporting the James Taylor Quartet earlier this year, Kaldera from Reading have been invited back to warm the crowds for JTQ for the second time, when they appear at the Agincourt.  Fronted by the enormous voice of sexy diva Debbie Howard, their influences are diverse, their sound eclectic and their groove tighter than a gnat’s nostrils.  The Kaldera sound is a hybrid of powerful, passionate vocals over soul grooves, fused with blistering funk beats, more than a handful of jazz, beaten with hip-hop breaks and garnished with a pinch of rock.  Their ability to effortlessly blend so many styles results in a refreshing vibe that cannot easily be defined.

“Kaldera create a mix that is quite unlike anything else you may have in mind” – Unsigned Showcase Magazine

“..A seven-piece outfit with a gorgeous diva upfront, ful l p ercussion, rhythm section, funky guitar licks, decks, keys and a trombone makes for plenty to keep your eyes and ears occupied” – www.josaka.com

So, if you have never had the opportunity of seeing JTQ live then don’t miss out on this chance to catch them right on your doorstep.  It will be an experience you won’t forget in a hurry and you’ll definitely want to do it again.
