Friday 2 May 2003 The James Taylor Quartet + Kaldera + DJ Maria Papaioannou @ The Agincourt, London Road, Camberley.

Kaldera

KalderaReading based funk band fronted by Debbie Howard.  Kaldera supported JTQ when they played at The Fez Club, Reading earlier in 2003 and are back through popular demand...James Taylor liked them and so did the crowd in the sold-out venue.

Here is their biog:

Debbie Howard of Kaldera“..A seven-piece outfit with a gorgeous diva upfront, full percussion, rhythm section, funky guitar licks, decks, keys and a trombone makes for plenty to keep your eyes and ears occupied” – www.josaka.com

Pioneers of the “nu-soul” revival, Kaldera comprise of like-minded individuals from Berkshire brought together through a love of real music, with a common goal – striving to bring their own unique “feel-good” funky sound to the attention of the masses.

The Kaldera sound is a hybrid of powerful, passionate vocals over soul grooves, fused with blistering funk beats, more than a handful of jazz, beaten with hip-hop breaks and garnished with a pinch of rock.  Their ability to effortlessly blend so many styles results in a refreshing vibe that cannot easily be defined...

“Kaldera create a mix that is quite unlike anything else you may have in mind” – Unsigned Showcase Magazine

Kaldera are currently busy recording new material for their third EP (the last, Pre:Zen:Ting was recorded in July 2002 at the Propagation House Studios).  “Silence” acts as a testament to the universal appeal of Kaldera.  This funky riff-laden, foot tapping “acid jazz” vibe has the potential to become everybody’s favourite “summer anthem”, with a melody line that will ricochet around your head for days after listening.

“Kaldera have an amazing stage presence, and play original songs that capture everything from the dark and maybe hopeful mood of your average Monday to the wild, diverse, immediate and the vibrant” – Unsigned Showcase Magazine

Kaldera on stage at The Fez Club, Reading2002 was an eventful year for Kaldera, including prime slots at the inaugural “Educating The Masses” event at Reading University , headlining at The Fez Club in Reading and gigging extensively throughout the Home Counties and London .  The year culminated in a place at the final of the Sunday Sessions Battle of the Bands at Drakes, Basingstoke .  As well as juggling rehearsals, gigs and day jobs, members of Kaldera found time to establish regular DJ and Music workshops for Bracknell Forest Youth Service, teaching the art of DJ-ing, mixing records, playing guitar and drums to young people.

2003 dawned with their most prestigious gig to date – supporting the James Taylor Quartet at The Fez Club ( 6 February 2003 ).  This opportunity has significantly raised the profile of the band on the local circuit and beyond, and attracted much critical acclaim citing their professionalism and musicianship.  Kaldera have been awarded the honour of supporting JTQ again, on the first date of their nationwide summer tour – The Agincourt at Camberley on 2 May 2003

You can catch Kaldera at Jagz (Station Hill, Ascot ) on 16 April, and 2 May at the Agincourt , Camberley.  Say you heard of them first, and prepare to sell your sordid stories to the Sun…they will break out of the underground very soon.

“Refreshingly happy with their sound, Kaldera have a bright future” – Reading Evening Post

“This ‘aint ‘Pop Stars’. This is a real band, with real singers, who can play. So forget all that sh*t – this is what live music is really about” – Kings Head, Fulham
